Can domestic replace international tourism?

This is a question I had been meaning to look at with the ABS arrivals and departures data. The ongoing Dransfield Hotel series has had a go at this from the perspective of hotel visitor nights: impact of extended closure of international borders

There are many assumptions in this analysis and Dransfield tends to the higher end hotel (not pubs) market. It’s a good question though with the most popular outbound tourism markets such as Bali now closed off for a while.

This disturbs me though:
