Well sort of ……

Economic and trading conditions in Cairns have been challenging during the year particularly in the first half from January to June. RCT’s performance in the second half of the year has been stronger than the first half. The second half is expected to be similar to the second half of last year. The second half is traditionally the “high tourist season” in Cairns.

Still not an impressive result given that the second half last year was the lowest H2 result since  2010.

Noted this week also was a report in the Cairns Post with critical comments on the proposed Global Tourism Hub (GTH) from LNP spokesman David Crisafulli. I should come back to the GTH as I didn’t get around to posting on the economic analysis from PWC released in August as an abbreviated summary PR report by Tourism Minister Kate Jones and deserving of some questions.
